According to Drew Phillips over at AutoBlog Saleen is set to unveil the ‘Dark Horse’ super Mustang. The ‘Dark Horse’ Mustang will feature the 620 horsepower supercharged V8 from the S302 Extreme plus the new SuperShaker ram-air system. The Dark Horse Mustang will also use the Heritage body style with other features to make this car unique. Only 25 models will be produced and you can probably guess it will be an all Black Mustang. More photos and information on the car next week when it’s unveiled.

For 2009 Saleen will be scaling back the limited editions to more of the upscale variety possibly due to the limited production volume of 2009 Ford Mustangs.

“The campaign for the year is titled ‘the Pinnacle,’ as we intend to solidify Saleen’s position as the leader in exclusive performance vehicles,” says Marques McCammon, General manager at Saleen Automotive. “My vision is to move the brand up with more exclusivity in every model, with fewer, more substantive offerings.”

Also for 2009 Saleen will introduce a new wheel (picture above), some new exterior details, and each model will have its own interior treatment; ie.., a 281 Supercharged will be visually different from a S302 Supercharged, and the S302E would be different still. Read the rest of this entry »

It has been reported that Chris Theodore has been named new CEO of Saleen Inc. Chris will take over for Paul Wilbur who stepped down voluntarily to pursue other business ventures. Chris’ previous position at Saleen was as Vice Chairman and Chief Technical Officer. He was very much involved in the development of the S5S Raptor Concept and S302 Extreme production along with the other Limited Edition Saleens oin the market today. Chris was a former senior executive at both Chrysler and Ford Motor Company. While at Ford he was very much involved in kick starting the Ford GT supercar, production of the 2002 Thunderbird and the 2001 Bullitt Mustang. He has been given full support from Saleen and ASC management teams on his new position.

JDM Engineering and Saleen Speedlab teamed up to create a drag version of the limited-production 25th anniversary 2008 Sterling Edition Mustang. The Mustang made its racing debut last weekend weekend at the NMRA event at Milan Dragway and ran a 10.418 @ 130.4 mph on its very first pass. Check out the video above.

Saleen is set to introduce ‘Racecraft’ branded vehicles with the first one being the 420S Mustang packing 420 horsepower and a bunch of Racecraft goodies. The new Racecraft branded 420S Mustang will be the first vehicle in the lineup of a brand mostly known for suspension components. Some of the highlights of the 420S Mustang are the twin-screw supercharger, racecraft suspension components, Racecraft graphics package, Performance seats and 18″ wheels. MSRP for the 420S comes in at $38,995 including freight and the dreaded gas guzzler tax. According to Saleen this is just the begining of the Racecraft branded vehicles with a Focus coming within a year at a price of around $20K.

Are you looking for the ultimate rental car, well Gotham Dream Cars has the answer as they have just added the 550 horsepower Saleen S7 to their fleet of exotic rental cars. Gotham Dream Cars has two locations, one in NY and the other in Miami with daily, weekend and weekly rates. Daily rates for the S7 are $3,950, weekend rates (Fri-Sun) range from $9K-11K while a weekly rental will set you back $19,950.

To rent any of the exotic cars Gotham has on hand you must be 21 years of age, have a clean driving record with no major moving violations, your own insurance and leave a credit card for damages if any at the end of the rental. Saleen will be offering for the first time their high performance 5.0-liter 302 cubic inch powerplant as a crate engine for sale through its Speedlab Aftermarket Division. Crate engine packages will range from 390hp (normally-aspirated 302 engines) to 580hp (supercharged 302 engines). Variations of the 302 cubic inch crate motor are currently found in the Parnelli Jones Edition, Heritage Series, and the new 25th Anniversary Sterling Edition. The 5.0-Liter motor will be available in short or longblock configurations to satisfy all types of engine builders and power enthusiasts.
